Throughout the session, parents will be asked to take a step back and have the child work with the instructor more with parent watching close by. Children will continue to explore blowing bubbles, submersion of mouth, nose, ears, and eyes, floating on their front and back, arm and leg movements in the water, changing positions in the water and feeling safe in the aquatic environment.
Swimmers will enjoy water activities, songs, and games similar to the water adjustment class, but take it up a level to include full submersion in the water (up to four seconds), lying on their back with ears submerged (up to 30 seconds), and more advanced forward movement with arms and legs. This class is for the eager swimmer who still needs to be accompanied by a parent in the water. Swimmer will swim with an adult for a 30 minute lesson Parent & Child Water Exploration for ages 2 to 3 years Westonka Aquatics | Learn to Swim Programs Instructors use a variety of different techniques to create a fun, safe and challenging learning environment for swimmers of all ages Swimmers must be able to successfully perform the exit skills prior to moving onto the next level. For this reason, in the first class, swimmers will start off with a brief skills assessment to ensure swimmers are enrolled in the appropriate swim level. It is not uncommon for a swimmer to take more than one session of classes to move onto the next level within that age group. Each level includes eight - 30 minute lessons that encompass water safety skills important to swim development.
The prerequisite for each swim level is determined first by age, and then by successful demonstration of development of skill within that age group (Novice Level, Intermediate Level, or Experienced Level).
Westonka Aquatics Learn-to-Swim Programs are comprehensive and developmentally appropriate swim programs that teach all ages how to swim skillfully and safely. We have adapted and customized this swim program based on best practice recommendations from USA Swimming Learn-to Swim programs, American Red Cross swim programs, and other nationally recognized learn-to-swim curricula to fit the needs of Westonka. We recognize that every swimmer grows and develops at a different rate, this is why we have put a focus on meeting your swimmer’s needs first by their age and then by their swimming ability. Westonka Aquatics Learn-to-Swim Program was developed with safety and proper swim stroke development in mind.
